A group of maritime operator Prime Gold International's (Prime Gold) former Singaporean employees approached the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for assistance in June 2014, when they were successively retrenched while their positions were filled with new foreign workers.
Prime Gold claimed the Singaporean employees were retrenched due to job redundancies, and because the company was running losses.
Prime Gold also cited unsatisfactory work performance and the Singaporean employees' lack of relevant qualifications as reasons for their dismissal, the Manpower Ministry said.
Investigations revealed that Prime Gold had unfairly replaced their Singaporean employees with foreigners, therefore denying Singaporeans fair opportunities for employment and career development.
The MOM has curbed Prime Gold's work pass privileges for two years for the discriminatory treatment of Singaporean employees, the ministry announced in a press release on Monday (Dec 29).
