I was dismayed to learn that electric kick scooters, or e-scooters, are illegal for use on public roads, pavements and park connectors.

As a small city-state trying to reinvent public transport, why are we shutting the door on a viable alternative form of transport?

E-scooters have an effective range of around 15km.

They lose speed once the throttle is released, making them safer than bicycles.

Riders can also switch to manual propulsion in areas where there is high human traffic.

As a form of personal transport, it is not only clean and safe, but also very efficient.

I have seen many Central Business District workers commuting on e-scooters via park connectors.

Why not study the efficacy of e-scooters?

I urge the authorities to weigh the scooters' merits before deciding on a ban.
