This year’s Race Against Cancer, held yesterday, has raised a record S$1 million to help cancer patients. Now into its sixth edition, the event raised S$861,000 last year.

Organised by Singapore Cancer Society and SingTel, the race participants yesterday included cancer patients and survivors, and their families, in three race categories — the 5km Fun Run, 10km Competitive Men/Women and 15km Competitive Men/Women.

The money raised will be used to fund the Singapore Cancer Society’s services and programmes to provide care and support for cancer patients, including its Help The Children And Youth Programme, as well as financial and welfare aid to needy cancer patients and its cancer treatment subsidies.

It will also help pay for hospice care services for terminally-ill cancer patients, as well as rehabilitation support for recovering cancer patients and cancer survivors.

Through the race, the organisers hope to rally the community to join in the fight against cancer.
