The Manchester United Class of 92 sought to roll back the years on Thursday night. With only David Beckham missing from the list, the crowd in Lancashire were treated to an array of big names.

They may have full trophy cabinets, but age may not be on their side as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers – who were joined by a host of other former Manchester United players on the night – were roundly beaten by non-league Salford City at the AJ Bell stadium.

Giggs netted a lovely dinked penalty for the Class of 92, but Salford City – the club they bought and hope to take to the Football League – proved far too strong, scoring five times to the pleasure of the home crowd.

The Manchester United legends were beaten 5-1 on Thursday by Salford City – the club they bought in the hope of turning them into a Football League side.
