Leicester City completed the signing of former Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso on a free transfer.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson persuaded former Argentina international Cambiasso, who had been without a club since being released by Inter at the end of last season, to move to English Premier League new-boys City despite interest from River Plate in his homeland.

"Leicester City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Esteban Cambiasso on a one-year deal," a statement on Leicester's website confirmed.

Cambiasso was a key member of Inter's 2010 treble-winning side as he helped Jose Mourinho's side lift the Serie A title, Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League.

He made over 300 appearances for Inter after moving to Italy from Real Madrid in 2004. However, he was deemed surplus to requirements in the close-season, despite making 32 Serie A appearances last term.

Cambiasso also made 52 appearances for Argentina, scoring five times, before retiring from international duty in 2011.
