Darrion Holiwell, the former King County deputy who was charged with theft and promoting his own wife as a prostitute, pleaded guilty in court Monday.

Holiwell pleaded guilty to one count of promoting prostitution and domestic violence, one count of theft in the first degree, and one count of violation of the controlled substance act.

King County Superior Court Judge Bruce Heller called Holiwell a disgrace to his profession and said he violated the public trust. Judge Heller also said he thought it was a lenient sentence, but he also recognized Holiwell was taking responsibility for what he had done.

Investigators said Holiwell encouraged his estranged wife, a former stripper, to work as an escort, and that he kept much of her earnings. He was also accused of stealing department ammunition and illegally delivering testosterone.

Holiwell was King County's chief firearms instructor and a nationally recognized competitive shooter. His guilty plea means he can no longer own guns.

Holiwell will serve one year and one day in prison and 12 months of community custody. Holiwell will serve the sentences concurrently.
