How do you feel dining next to traffic?

Customers at Tang Tea House prefer to sit outside, so close to moving traffic they can touch the cars. Why? Because its cooler, said one owner, Tan Keng Hoon, 58.

Even though he has been warned multiple times and even fined $500 thrice, he still sets up the tables and chairs on and next to a service road.

He said: "Seventy per cent of the people who come here want to sit outdoors. If you take this away, we cannot do business."

This, even after a taxi ploughed into a packed Siglap bistro, thankfully killing none. Four patrons and staff were injured.

Mr Tan claimed: "We know that it is a safety issue, but it is not like we insist on doing so. It's a response to a need."
