The Singapore Under-15 boys' team, despite playing nearly half the match a man down, held on to beat Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the Asian Football Confederation Under-16 Championship qualifiers in Hong Kong on Wednesday afternoon.
Still, after their opening 4-1 thrashing by the hosts last Saturday, they are unlikely to make it out of Group G to next year's 16-team Finals, as they still need to face group leaders Australia, who have thumped Macau 14-1 and Chinese Taipei 7-0 so far, on Sunday.
The Cubs first play cellar-dwellers Macau, who have lost their three matches with a goal difference of -23, on Friday and are expected to win easily.

According to the police report, the incident started when three female friends headed out Thursday night for a going-away party for one of them.
The women quickly ran into an acquaintance and agreed to let him join their celebrations. The group proceeded to go to two more bars, with the acquaintance being totally pleasant and fun the whole time.
After the last bar closed early Friday morning, the group went to a pizza place across the street where the acquaintance bought slices for the whole group.
But when one of the female friends bought beer at a nearby market, she wouldn't give one to the acquaintance, and he became extremely agitated, according to the report.
Meanwhile, one of the women had called a male friend to come pick them up, and he arrived to find the acquaintance yelling loudly at the women, according to the report.
As the women were getting into the male friend's car, the acquaintance reportedly threw a full can of beer, hitting one of the women in the glasses, a full beer bottle at the ground and also a partially full beer bottle at the car, breaking its windshield.
The driver got out, yelled at the acquaintance and kicked him in the leg. Officers eventually arrived and placed the acquaintance under arrest.

The elderly man was shocked when he opened the mail one day last year to find nude photos of his then-23-year-old daughter.
There were even lurid captions and lewd descriptions of his child, insinuating that she was promiscuous.
The sender also warned that the girl may have been infected with HIV.
It turned out the sender was Low Peng Hu, 47, the girl's ex-boyfriend - her former lecturer with whom she had an affair.
He failed to win her back and decided to take revenge by mailing the pictures to her parents and her new school.
He was jailed three weeks for sending the obscene photos.

A 49-year-old man was found hanged in a room in Club One Seven at Boat Quay on Nov 19 last year.
Police officer Siaw Kah Swee said: “Club One Seven is a two-storey gay pub meant only for registered patrons.”
Singaporean Yeo Hung Song's body was discovered after two cleaners managed to unlatch the locked door.
They found Mr Yeo, naked and hanging from a metal chain around his neck.
Yesterday, his death was ruled to be caused by hanging.
The coroner said it could be the result of autoerotic asphyxiation. This meant he had been restricting his breathing in order to be sexually aroused.
He was also said to be depressed, so suicide could not be ruled out.
