A man has been charged in court for committing armed robbery at Geylang Bahru on Dec 1.

35-year-old Lee Heong Chye is accused of wielding a penknife and robbing 33-year-old Chung Yi Ren at a multi-storey carpark at Block 60A Geylang Bahru.

At the time of the alleged offence, Ms Chung was alone in her car and was about to drive off from an open carpark.

Lee allegedly confronted Ms Chung and made her move to the front passenger seat. She complied.

Then he is said to have driven the car to the upper deck of the multi-storey carpark nearby, where he demanded Ms Chung to hand over her valuables amounting to more than S$2,200.

These included a smart phone, a wristwatch valued at about S$2,000, ATM cards, a credit card, about S$200 in cash and US$200 in cash. Lee is also said to have gotten Ms Chung’s ATM pins.

Subsequently, Lee tied up Ms Chung using adhesive tape and fled the scene on foot.

She managed to free herself and drove out of the multi-storey carpark to seek help.

Lee was arrested by a team of officers on Wednesday along Scotts Road at about 3.25pm.

If convicted, Lee may be jailed between two and 10 years, and caned a minimum of 12 strokes.
