A stubborn crab endured five days in the freezer and refused to die, earning the respect of the woman who had wanted to cook it for dinner.

According to the Bristol Aquarium, which shortly afterwards became the new home of the crab, a woman had tried to kill it by putting it in the fridge, only to find that it had endured the ordeal.

After five days, the crab had earned her respect, so much so that she had been unable to bring herself to kill it.

It was then that she had called the Aquarium, in order to donate it, and had hurried over with it wrapped in a wet towel.

The crab, which is believed to be some 15 to 20 years old, has been named George and will spend the rest of its days living at the Aquarium for all to see.
