Police have arrested three youths aged 16, 17 and 18 for suspected theft of a motorcycle and hurting a police officer with it.
On Wednesday just before midnight, the owner of the motorcycle told police that someone had stolen and rode off with his motorcycle from a car park in Yishun Street 21.
Shortly after, police also received another call from the public that a motorcycle was being steered "haphazardly" in Yishun Central.
Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrived promptly at a service road in Yishun Central and spotted what was believed to be the stolen motorcycle.
One of the officers signalled for the rider to stop.
But instead of stopping, the rider deliberately accelerated and knocked into the officer, causing him to sustain superficial injuries.
Both rider and pillion then abandoned the motorcycle and fled.
Aided by forensic evidence, the officers established the identities of the three suspects.
In less than 24 hours, the three suspects were arrested in Yishun Street 21, Woodlands Drive 14 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 on Thursday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the trio had stolen the motorcycle together, before two of them took it for a joyride.
All three suspects will be charged in court on Saturday.
If convicted, they could be jailed up to seven years for theft of a motor vehicle, and jailed one year and fined up to S$5,000 for committing a rash act with hurt.
Vehicle owners are also advised to secure their vehicles with additional devices such as braking disc locks or canvas cover when possible.
