An accident on one lane of the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) involving a tipper truck and a lorry, caused a section of the AYE just before Tuas West to be closed off to traffic Wednesday morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that the tipper truck, which was carrying cement, was found lying on its right side, and on top of the taxi with two people trapped inside. Three commercial lorries' mounted cranes assisted in lifting the tipper truck off the taxi.

SCDF rescuers concurrently used shovels to remove the wet cement which covered most of the taxi and hydraulic rescue equipment to gain access to the casualties. They also had to cut part of the vehicle to reach those trapped inside.

The passenger of a taxi and the driver of a taxi who were trapped were freed and were taken to the National University Hospital.
