Two doctors in Singapore are hoping to find a cure for breast cancer in Asian patients.
And to fund their research, they are literally going the distance by riding their motorbikes from Singapore to Sweden.
The two doctors -- Associate Professor Mikael Hartman from NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, and Associate Professor Philip Iau from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine -- have been working on their plan for the last two years.
They hope to start their journey in March next year.
During the trip, the two doctors will pass through 17 countries spanning about 23,000 km, and spread breast cancer awareness by holding health fairs and lectures along the way.
Associate Professor Iau said that they have kept the duration of the trip to under four months.
“It is a bit off the charts. It is a bit unusual, certainly, for two surgeons to go off like this... we need to find some novel solutions for novel problems,” he said.
The two doctors said they will spend an average of five hours a day on the road, on bikes that are made for long-distance travel.
They will be accompanied by a support vehicle along the way.
Donations for the cause can be made online, via longridess.com.
