V Sundramoorthy has resigned as the head coach of the LionsXII and the national U-23 squad.
The former international, who led the LionsXII to the Malaysia Super League title this season, as well as the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup, will be joining the Negeri Sembilan Football Association (FA) as their new head coach.
He will take charge of the state side who were relegated from the MSL this season, and has been tasked with not only winning promotion from the Malaysian Premier League (MPL) next year but also to eventually win the MSL title and Malaysia Cup.
He will also be armed with a big warchest for signing new players to deliver the silverware.
The FAS tried to persuade Sundram to stay, and even offered him more than the S$15,000 monthly salary that he will be reportedly paid by Negeri Sembilan.
However, Sundram declined the national body’s offer because he wanted to try his hand at coaching in another country, and also take on the challenge set by the Negeri Sembilan FA.
As Sundram will be starting work across the Causeway next month, he will not be leading the national U-23 team to the SEA Games in Myanmar in December.
National coach Bernd Stange and Courts Young Lion coach Aide Iskandar will be taking charge of the U-23 team.
