Sentosa is the most expensive island among 20 key island holiday destinations around South-east Asia for travellers, according to TripAdvisor's TripIndex Island Sun 2013.

Assuming that two people travelled together, stayed for a night in a four-star hotel, enjoyed a two-course meal with coconut juice and beers, indulged in an hour-long massage for two, and rented bicycles and snorkelling equipment, the couple can expect to spend $1,070.95 on Sentosa, said TripAdvisor, at the launch of its index yesterday.

On the other end of the spectrum, the most affordable island for Singapore travellers is Koh Phangan in Thailand, with a total TripIndex cost of $292.67.

While the cost of a hotel stay is the most expensive in the TripIndex basket of items, the biggest disparity in costs lies in the rental of bicycles and snorkelling equipment, noted TripAdvisor.
