In its 12th year, the MediaCorp Subaru Challenge 2013 kicked off on Saturday with 400 contestants battling it out for the top prize of a car worth S$85,000.

At 1pm, contestants placed their hands on the cars, which are parked at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.

Rain or shine, they will have to keep their hands on the cars if they want to drive away with the top prize. Contestants only get a five-minute break every six hours.

As of 9pm, 124 people have already given up.

Some contestants said they are not likely to keep the car if they win because they feel COE premiums are now too high.

Last year's winner walked away with his prize after three days, six hours and 30 minutes, a little less than the 2008 record of three days, nine hours, and 32 minutes.
