Man with knife arrested at Buckingham Palace

A man was arrested today after he attempted to enter Buckingham Palace while in possession of a knife, police have said.

The incident happened at around 11.30am at the palace's north centre gate. The knife was discovered when police searched the 44-year-old man.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site and possession of an offensive weapon.

Buckingham Palace said that the Queen was not in the building when the man tried to get in, but would make no further comment.
