A man in his 60s died in a fire that broke out in an HDB flat at Marine Crescent on Saturday morning.
His body was found by firefighters after they put out a fire in his unit on the 10th floor at Block 27.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the man was visually impaired.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call about the fire at 9:30am.
The fire, confined to the living room and bedroom, was put out in 45 minutes.
An elderly couple lived in the unit but the wife of the victim was not in the unit when the fire broke out though both she and her son were seen outside the block soon after.
It is all calm now but there are many elderly residents living in the block. They had difficulty accessing the only staircase in the block due to the heavy smoke, so they had to resort to taking the lift to evacuate.
Investigations are ongoing.
