Elderly woman found dead in Toa Payoh lift

As the elderly woman lay unconscious in the lift at Block 105 of Lorong 1, Toa Payoh, it went up from the first storey to the eighth and back down again.

The five or so people who were at the lift lobby appeared to be just staring helplessly at the sight.

Madam Menaga A. Rawichandran claimed that when she asked if anyone had called the authorities, she got no reply.

"I felt great pity for her. No one was holding the lift door open, so it closed and went to the eighth storey," she said.

Madam Menaga's brother helped to hold the lift when it came back down, and her husband called 995 for help.

The elderly woman is believed to have fainted in the lift before she died there.
