Some people just want to watch the world burn
Chances are high that Asean leaders will agree to adopt a joint haze monitoring system at the regional grouping's summit which kicks off today.

Senior officials who finished the draft of the agreement yesterday evening were happy with the language - and reported to be hopeful that the 10 Asean leaders will put their signatures to it.

The leaders are likely to be pushed by a scheduled meeting on the summit sidelines between Asean member countries most affected by the haze - Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong are expected to watch the Singapore-developed monitoring system in action at the meeting.
