JEM shopping mall remained closed to public on Thursday morning, after three people were injured when part of the ceiling on the first level collapsed on Wednesday night.
According to TODAY, a sign posted outside the mall stated: "We are not open today" and all entrances to the building had been cordoned off.
Owners Lend Lease said its concern is focused on the welfare of the injured, and to ensure the safety of the public, shoppers and staff.
As a precautionary measure, the shopping centre in Jurong will remain closed to public until further notice.
The Building & Construction Authority (BCA) said site inspections by its engineers revealed that there was a leak in the water pipe and the weight of the water that collected on the false ceiling, was a likely cause of the false ceiling collapse.
Though the structural integrity of the building is not affected, BCA has ordered Land Lease to close off the affected area and to get a Professional Engineer to check all the false ceilings in the mall and investigate the nature of the false ceiling collapse. Water pipes will also be checked for any other signs of leakage.
