Boy donates savings to police

A boy came into the Greenfield police department September 13 and gave his savings to the woman working the front desk, before leaving without giving him name.

Touched, police went around looking for him and finally found 11-year-old Max Sierpert, according to Today.

Max, the grandson of a Milwaukee cop who died in the line of duty, was inspired by the stories his teachers told him about the police and firefighters who responded to the 9/11 attack, and wanted to help.

The department wrote on its Facebook page, “Max rode his bike to the police station without his parents' knowledge and didn't expect the attention. Thank you, Max, and thank you to your grandfather for his sacrifice."

"One day that's going to make a difference. It might not be a really big difference but at least it's something," said Max, who started saving up the $10.03 in April.

The money will go to the Greenfield Police Foundation for equipment, according to the report.
