Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announces retirement

Microsoft's CEO is ready to retire. Steve Ballmer, the company's Chief Executive Officer for the past 13 years, will only be around for, at most, another 12 months.

Immediately following the announcement Microsoft stock was up nine percent.

Microsoft's board of directors is already searching for the next CEO who will lead the company into the future.

A special committee has been appointed to head up the candidate selection, including Chairman of the Board Bill Gates.

During the selection process Ballmer will continue as CEO.
