Some durian sellers lament that they have had to drop prices following a bountiful harvest of durian in recent weeks.
Mr Sim Hoe Kit, who has been selling durians at his Happy Eat stall in Clementi Town Centre for nearly 10 years, bemoans that he has been forced to "cut, cut and cut" prices.
He scratches his paunch, then jokes: "See this stomach, I think it's going to shrink because I am not going to be making much money this season."
Mr Sim says he has been forced to cut the prices of his durians by about 40 per cent.
"It's either that or end up making a bigger loss and throwing away the durians."
Mr Chia Boon Huat from Kong Lee Hup Kee explains that the delay in this season's harvest has affected the supply of durians.
"There is an abundance of supply, so much that some vendors have no choice but to cut their prices," he says.
Mr Chia considers himself lucky that his durian stall in Pasir Ris faces little competition.
He says: "When customers have many stalls to pick from, it'd make more money sense to sell more with less (cost)."
Prices for kampung durians (the more generic species) have gone down to as low as 50 cents each.
