On 10 May 2013, the victim lodged a police report informing that an anonymous user had sent a private message to her on a social networking website, threatening to post nude photos of the victim if she did not send over more nude photos of herself.
The user said he had found some of her nude photos online and threatened to post them on websites and around the victim’s neighbourhood if she did not send over more photos.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division worked on the case extensively to trace the suspect, who had taken care to create a new user profile when liaising with the victim to extort the photographs in order to evade detection.
Despite the suspect’s anonymity, the officers managed to establish a lead which subsequently led to his identification.
On 20 August 2013, the suspect was arrested at his home in the vicinity of Tampines Street 42 for an offence of Criminal Intimidation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both the victim and suspect are not known to each other. The suspect had come across the nude photographs of the victim online and had devised the plan to demand more of such photographs from her.
Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.
