They had been heading towards a traffic junction at Loyang Avenue. That was the last memory rider Mohammad Mazree Abdul Majib and his pillion rider Siti Nadiah have of being on a motorcycle.

He woke up on a grass patch and she woke up in an ambulance.

"It happened so fast, I didn't know what happened," Mr Mohammad Mazree said.

What happened was that a car had collided with his motorbike on Tuesday, sending both of them flying.

He said the first thing he saw in front of him were some anxious faces of cyclists. One helped to direct traffic and called for help.

"I'm also very grateful that the cyclists stopped and helped to catch the driver that (hit) us," he said.

The 24-year-old said he has been riding for five years and had not been in an accident before this.

Mr Mohammad Mazree and Ms Nadiah were taken to Changi General Hospital (CGH).

He had a lower left hip fracture and needed stitches on his face.

Mr Mohammad Mazree said: "I feel so lucky that my injuries are not very serious.

"It could be a lot worse than what I'm experiencing."

But Ms Nadiah was not so fortunate. She suffered a concussion and has an unspecified spinal injury from the accident. She declined to be interviewed, but her sister-in-law, Madam Siti, said: "She's not up for anything and is in a lot of pain right now."

She said Ms Nadiah cannot remember anything.

Madam Siti said: "Last (thing) she remembered was that they were (near) a traffic light. Next thing she knew, she woke up in an ambulance."
