A registered sex offender was arrested Sunday for allegedly reading a pornographic magazine and touching himself sexually in the presence of dozens of families and small children at Cal Anderson Park.

According to the Seattle Police Department, bike patrol officers were alerted to the man around 12:45 p.m. and found him seated on a bench near the fountain holding a pornographic magazine and with one hand tucked under his large T-shirt.

He admitted to what he was doing, and officers found a number of additional magazines, as well as a container of personal lubricant and a sex toy, in his backpack, according to police.

The man was booked into King County Jail for investigation of indecent exposure.

After a number of serious criminal incidents at Cal Anderson Park, the city announced it would be installing a park ranger. The ranger is scheduled to start patrolling by the end of the month.
