Some 5,000 participants from all walks of life put their best foot forward for a good cause on Saturday morning.

The annual barefoot walkathon, organised by Barclays and Habitat for Humanity, surpassed its initial goal of S$300,000 to raise funds for a clean-up project in Singapore.

The walk at Gardens by the Bay saw participants kicking off their shoes, before starting out on a 2.5km or a 5km circuit.

All funds will go towards the Habitat for Humanity's project -- Project Homeworks.

The project is aimed at improving the living conditions of the elderly, sick and the handicapped living in one-room flats.
