LionsXII coach V. Sundramoorthy has been named by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) as the head coach of the Singapore Selection team that will take on Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on May 22 at the Jalan Besar Stadium for the Singapore Olympic Foundation - Peter Lim Charity Cup.
The team has a blend of experienced Singapore national players such as captain Shahril Ishak, Daniel Bennett, Mustafic Fahrudin, and younger players like Hafiz Sujad, Faris Ramli and Afiq Yunos.
A surprise inclusion in the squad is 43-year-old stiker Aleksandar Duric, who retired from international football after winning the AFF Championship with the Lions last December.
“We have assembled a squad comprising of young and experienced players, of whom many have competed against top teams in recent years and I am also looking to give the young players a chance to showcase their potential on this big stage,” said Sundram.
A player who certainly has experience playing against top European clubs and country is former Singapore international Indra Shahdan, who is delighted at being picked for the squad and hopes to get his name on the scoresheet against the Rojiblancos.
“This is a real good chance for me to once again prove my striking prowess against one of the top European teams,” said the Home United player.
“I have scored against top teams such as Manchester United, Uruguay, Japan and Denmark among others. Hopefully, I will be able to score against Atletico Madrid, come May 22.”
The Singapore Selection will be boosted with the inclusion of S.League foreign trio Jozep Kaplan, Sirina Camara and former Moroccan international Monsef Zerka.
