Singapore canoeists had a record haul of 10 medals at the 2011 SEA Games.

For the upcoming Myanmar SEA Games in December, the Singapore Canoe Federation said it is unlikely to beat the 10-medal target, as fewer events are on offer but they want to better that tally when the Republic hosts the Games in 2015.

The current national championship at MacRitchie Reservoir is a good platform to benchmark the rowers.

The federation has plans to include new categories, to help increase the medal tally at the 2015 Games.

Chua Kee Huat, president of Singapore Canoe Federation, said: "There were two that we were particularly interested, one of them is called canoe polo, it is a combination of canoe and polo. And the second one was the flat water slalom, the format that we did in YOG, and would love to see that come back again to Singapore as part of the YOG legacies."

Three options are available as the competition venue for 2015 - MacRitchie Reservoir, Marina Bay or Bedok Reservoir.
