Fans of free-to-air television programmes can now turn to a new Internet service to record live TV broadcasts and watch the programmes almost instantly.
Dubbed Record Live, the two-week-old service is offered through RecordTV.com, an "online recorder" service that lets users record TV shows over the Internet.
Previously, viewers could watch recorded programmes only after the shows have aired. Now, all viewers need to do is go to www.recordtv.com on their computers, smartphones or tablets and choose from a list of programmes to record.
Over the last two years, RecordTV has been enhanced to include social networking features and support for mobile-phone browsers. The new features allow viewers to start recording programmes with their smartphones and share information about the shows they are recording with friends on social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter.
"We think that television, social and mobile are not three different things - they represent changes in the way we consume TV content," said Mr Fernandes, 36.
RecordTV is funded by its own capital and a $250,000 grant from Spring Singapore's Technology Enterprise Commercialisation Scheme. The six-year-old company has no revenue for now.
To monetise the business, Mr Fernandes said RecordTV could introduce premium services or partner with telcos.
