620 needy Malay-Muslim families in the central part of Singapore are getting help from a newly-formed Central Mosque Cluster.

The group of nearly 30 mosques is the fifth and final cluster formed by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).

It is aimed at providing speedy and comprehensive help to needy families.

The Central Mosque Cluster is the biggest, comprising close to half the 69 mosques in Singapore.

5,500 needy families were helped last year, in partnership with 550 volunteers.

MUIS hopes to rope in about 300 more volunteers to expand its reach.
