Singapore's biggest water sports festival -- the DBS Marina Regatta -- drew to a close on Sunday evening.
Some 140 teams from the region took part in the two-day international dragon boat competition -- this was a 50 per cent increase in participation from 2012. They included top teams from Australia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
The two-day event also saw more participation across all race categories. Female participation increased to close to 700 athletes compared to over 400 in 2012.
This is also the first time that local tertiary dragon boaters competed with their peers from the region on an international race platform.
Members of the public can continue to enjoy the regatta this coming weekend, where some 1,000 of them will be allowed to try out dragon boating, kayaking and sailing free of charge during the Bay Festival.
