Axed Mancini stays mum during exit
Axed Roberto Mancini declined to speak to the waiting media as his former Manchester City players left to prepare for Tuesday night's trip to Reading.

Mancini, whose sacking was confirmed on Monday evening after days of intense speculation, was driven away from City's central London hotel shortly after 11am on Tuesday.

The Italian greeted the press hordes with a smile but refused to answer questions.

Platt follows Mancini out of Man City
Manchester City assistant manager David Platt has left the club just a day after Roberto Mancini was sacked.

The club released a statement which read: "With regret Manchester City announce that David Platt has this afternoon [Tuesday] left his role as Assistant Manager at the Club."

"David was offered the opportunity to continue his work with us but has declined the invitation. He has decided to leave his role with his close friend Roberto Mancini.

City seal runners-up spot with Reading triumph
Manchester City began life without Roberto Mancini with a routine 2-0 victory at rain-sodden Reading on Tuesday evening.

With Reading already relegated and City's Champions League place assured, the match had a distinct end-of-season feel about it.

Royals goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was one of few outstanding players, making a string of fine saves either side of Sergio Aguero's strike at the end of the first half.

Reading came close to levelling on a number of occasions in a tense second period, only for substitute Edin Dzeko to wrap up a win that secures second place in the closing stages.

Brave Wigan relegated after Arsenal defeat
Wigan have been relegated from the Barclays Premier League after an eight-year stay following a crushing 4-1 defeat at Arsenal on Tuesday evening.

The FA Cup winners' relegation was also coupled with Arsenal's move into the top four with the emphatic home win at the Emirates Stadium.

It was always going to be a big ask for the Latics to lift themselves for such a huge game just 72 hours after their glorious Wembley victory over Manchester City, and so it proved.Lukas Podolski nodded the Gunners in front on 11 minutes, but Shaun Maloney gave the visitors hope when he crashed home a free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

However, three goals in the space of eight minutes just after the hour from Theo Walcott, Podolski and Aaron Ramsey meant there was to be no fairytale ending for Roberto Martinez's men, despite another brave crack at the Great Escape.
