A 34-year-old man died on Tuesday after an archway at the Audi Fashion Festival (AFF) collapsed and landed on him last Thursday.

The victim, Xu Zhen Xuan, who was visiting from Hong Kong, was knocked unconscious when the metal archway landed on his back and neck.

Xu was reportedly taking photos at Marina Promenade at around 9.45am when the archway suddenly collapsed. The archway was located 300 metres away from the Tent@Marina Promenade.

His family, who rushed to Singapore when they received news of the accident, decided to take him off life support after his condition worsened, reported a local Chinese daily.

Police have classified the case as an "unnatural death".

The fashion festival's organiser Mercury Marketing & Communications declined to comment, citing police investigations.

According to an eye witness, at least seven people were needed to lift the signage off the man. He was sent to the Singapore General Hospital.
