A win would have enabled V. Sundramoorthy’s men, who entered the match in fourth spot with 13 points, to leapfrog over Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM), who have 15 points, at the top.
Apart from missing the chance to go to the top, the LionsXII also suffered two huge blows today.
The first came when they lost striker Syafiq Zainal to a hamstring injury in the 48th minute.
The second came 14 minutes later when defender Baihakki Khaizan was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.
Even though the 47-year-old master tactician will be happy with a point earned today, he will still have three major headaches ahead of next Saturday’s home game against defending treble champions Kelantan as he will be without Syafiq, Baihakki and defender Hafiz Abu Sujad who will be suspended after picking up a yellow card today.
