SingTel has defended itself against accusation of providing services illegally to Indian customers.

In a statement today, the Singapore telco said that based on media reports, the Central Bureau of Investigation in India had registered a case against it and two other Indian telcos, for allegedly providing international long distance services to Indian customers without a licence.

There have been no official charges brought against it.

"SingTel denies and will actively defend itself against the allegation. As a long term strategic investor, SingTel respects and conducts its business according to applicable laws in the countries it operates in."
