A mini-van rammed into the back of a stationary lorry, killing two men who were unloading goods. The impact was so great, it caused the bonnet of the van to be wedged under the carriage of the lorry.

Pieces of the bumper and broken glass were strewn on the road.

The accident happened on Wednesday at 8.45am at Chai Chee Road, in front of the Technopark at Chai Chee.

One man, believed to be a Bangladeshi worker, was trapped between the vehicles. He is believed to have been standing on the road at the rear of the lorry, when the red mini-van hit the lorry.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) used hydraulic tools to extricate the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another worker, also believed to be from Bangladesh, was hit and killed at the scene as well.

A third worker was flung several metres from the vehicles.

He was taken to Changi General Hospital.

All three were employed by Ser Chuan Construction.

The brother of one of the deceased, who wanted to be known only as Mr Salim, was at the scene when The New Paper on Sunday visited in the early afternoon.

Clearly distraught, the 30-year-old construction worker could barely string a sentence together.
