Police have arrested 2 suspects, aged 17 and 29, for attempting to commit a break-in at a commercial premises located along Hougang Street 21.
A vigilant off-duty police officer spotted the suspects behaving suspiciously and immediately called for reinforcements to apprehend them.
On January 18, 2013 at about 2.30am, Sgt Khairul Anwar Bin Chasmat from the Sengkang Neighbourhood Police Centre spotted the two suspects along Hougang Street 21 when they were attempting to force open the glass panel door of a commercial premises using a bunch of keys.
Noting their behaviour, he immediately called for more police resources before apprehending the suspects.
Preliminary investigations disclosed that the two suspects had planned to commit a series of thefts in the said neighbourhood.
Before they went to Hougang Street 21, they were in the vicinity of Hougang Avenue 1 where they stole $20 in coins from various stalls in a market.
Police seized both the bunch of keys and the stolen cash as case exhibits.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Keok Tong San, commended SGT Khairul Anwar for his vigilance and quick thinking ability which led to the arrest of the suspects.
