Three people were rescued from a flat in Hougang after a fire broke out on Tuesday morning.

A 17-year-old youth, who was rescued from the kitchen toilet, suffered from smoke inhalation and cuts to his hands.

The other two women -- one is in her 60s and the other in her 30s -- were rescued from the bedroom and suffered from smoke inhalation.

The three casualties were sent to the Singapore General Hospital.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) put out the fire in about 20 minutes. The damage was confined to the living room of the flat.
