A monsoon surge is expected to affect the region over the next few days, bringing "widespread intermittent rain, heavy at times, with occasional windy conditions" between Jan 18 and 21, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) today.
Monsoon surges refer to the steady strengthening of northeasterly winds blowing from the South China Sea, during the wet phase of the Northeast Monsoon season in December and January.
Localised flash floods could occur, especially in low-lying coastal areas, if heavy rains coincide with high tides.
High tides are expected to occur at 3.31am and 3.37pm on Jan 18; 4.05am and 4.39pm on Jan 19; 4.45am and 6.05pm on Jan 20 and 5.35am and 8.37pm on Jan 21.
For the latest weather reports, members of the public can download the NEA's iPhone App, myEnv or refer to its website (www.nea.gov.sg), mobile weather service (weather.nea.gov.sg) or twitter account (@NEAsg). The public can also call the weather forecast hotline at 65427788.
