A video clip, apparently taken on a dashboard video camera and showing a lorry side-swiping a motorcycle on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), has gone viral since it was posted on Facebook on Saturday, 19 January.

The video clip was time-stamped 21 September 2010, 9.22pm, though it showed the road in daylight. However a post at the webpage said the incident occurred on Friday afternoon.

Responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia, police said they received a call on 18 January 2013 at about 1.35pm requesting for assistance along PIE towards Changi Airport, at lamp post 926.

The location is understood to be between the Eng Neo Avenue and Stevens Road exits of the PIE.

In the three-minute video posted on YouTube, a pickup is seen following closely behind a motorcyclist in the middle lane of the highway, between the Eng Neo Avenue and Stevens Road exits.

At around two minutes into the video clip, the pickup driver starts overtaking the motorbike but struck it on its side, causing the rider to fall and roll several times on the road.

The pickup then pulled over to the road shoulder and the vehicle travelling behind them – which recorded the accident with a mounted camera – also stopped.

Another car later pulled up on the road shoulder as well, seemingly to offer help.

In the description that accompanied the video, it was written that while waiting for the police and ambulance to arrive, the driver who recorded the accident took out an umbrella to give shade to the injured motorcyclist.

The pickup driver allegedly took the umbrella away to shade himself.

Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told inSing News that they received a call on 18 January at around 1.35pm asking for help along the expressway towards Changi Airport.

SCDF said the woman rider suffered multiple abrasions and injuries to the limbs and was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

UPDATE from STOMP >>>
The female biker who was flung onto the road after being tailgated and hit by a lorry underwent surgery on her right shoulder yesterday (Jan 21). She had also suffered multiple abrasions and injuries to her limbs.

According to a report in The Straits Times, the woman is a 25-year-old mother, Ms Hazel Ng.

The collision took place last Friday (Jan 18) and was witnessed by project manager Mr Aaron Ng, who also captured the whole incident on his in-vehicle camera.

"I was in shock," said the 34-year-old. "I immediately stopped the car, got out, called for an ambulance and gave them the lamppost number."

He said he then stood by the injured motorcyclist and started diverting heavy vehicles from her.

A flatbed trailer had passed the leftmost lane only seconds before Ms Ng had rolled onto it after the collision.

Eight motorists also stopped on the road shoulder to help Ms Ng, who got tissues and cloth to stop her bleeding.

She was then taken conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital with multiple abrasions and injuries to her limbs, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

She also told Mr Ng that she underwent surgery on her right shoulder yesterday (Jan 21).
