A British tourist holidaying in Australia was hailed a hero after he jumped into the water and wrestled a shark away from people playing at a beach north of Brisbane.
Paul Marshallsea, 62, was having a barbeque when he heard screams of 'shark'.
Local media Sky News footage captured the man grabbing the shark by its tail and guiding it towards deeper water.
Marshallsea said that he was almost bitten in the process but his "instincts took over" when he saw little children playing in the area.
"It's shallow for about six yards where the shark was and a lot of babies and toddlers splash about there," he told UK's Daily Mail.
Wildlife experts believe that the 1.8-m dusky whaler shark could have wandered close to shore because it was sick or injured. It was also probably stressed and disoriented, reported The Guardian.
The dusky whaler shark is a species that rarely attacks humans.
