It's a four-cornered fight at Punggol East
The battle for Punggol East has begun and it is a four-cornered fight, the first such contest in a parliamentary election since 1997.

The four candidates are Dr Koh Poh Koon of the PAP, Ms Lee Li Lian of the Workers' Party, Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam of the Reform Party and Mr Desmond Lim of the Singapore Democratic Alliance.

Four parties have nine days to campaign in by-election
The Punggol East by-election is happening just eight months after the last was held in Hougang.

Nine days have been allocated for campaigning and a day before the election, 25 January, is Cooling-Off Day, where no campaigning is allowed. There are some 31,000 residents eligible to vote in this by-election.
