Police warns that there will be heavy traffics and delays expected, and that the public should take note of the following security and traffic arrangements.
More details are available in the press release below:
Safety and Security Arrangements
Bags and personal items may be subjected to checks. The public is advised to cooperate with the Police and Auxiliary Police officers should checks be conducted. Notify the Police or Auxiliary Police officers if you come across any suspicious items or persons.
To prevent overcrowding, Auxiliary Police officers will be regulating the number of people entering The Promontory, One Fullerton / Merlion Park, Esplanade Park, Esplanade Waterfront Promenade, Marina Bay Sands Promenade and other areas within the vicinity of Marina Bay. Should overcrowding occur, the trains may bypass stations to alleviate congestion.
The footway along the Esplanade Bridge is to be used for transit only; pedestrians shall not remain on the bridge.
The footway along Benjamin Sheares Bridge will be closed to pedestrians from 6.00 pm on Dec 31, 2012 to 1.00 am on Jan 1, 2013.
Due to the large crowds expected, dispersal is expected to be slow after the event. The public is advised to exercise tolerance, to cooperate with and follow the instructions of Police and Auxiliary Police officers.
Crowd control barricades and directional signs will be put up to facilitate safe and orderly crowd dispersal.
Police would like to remind the public who are out enjoying the festivities to remain vigilant against crime. For example, women are advised to remain vigilant against opportunists who might commit molest in crowded areas.
In some cases, culprits have been known to spray foam onto the victim and take the opportunity to molest them.
The public can take the following precautions to minimize the risk of falling prey to crime:
- Look after your belongings at all times;
- Be cautious of strangers when approached;
- Stay close to friends or move around in groups; and
- Avoid contact with unruly crowds
The public is also reminded to be considerate to others in their midst when celebrating the year-end festivities in public areas and to avoid doing anything which may cause annoyance or compromise the safety of others.
Police would not hesitate to take action against any person who uses foam sprays to commit crime or to cause nuisance to the general public under the guise of festivities.
If confronted, approach the Police officers who are deployed on the ground for assistance. Alternatively, dial '999' or make a report at the nearest Police station.
Traffic Arrangements
For the safety of spectators and to facilitate traffic arrangements for the event, the following lanes and roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic during the stipulated periods:
In addition, the vehicular traffic direction of the following road will be reversed to facilitate crowd dispersal:
Auxiliary Police officers will be stationed at all affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists. Traffic advisory signs and electronic Variable Message Signs will also be put up near the affected roads. Motorists are encouraged to tune in to the radio for the latest traffic updates.
Parking at peripheral roads and stopping of vehicles along the ECP (Benjamin Sheares Bridge) to watch the fireworks is strictly prohibited. Enforcement action will be taken against errant motorists who do so. Vehicles which are parked causing obstruction will be towed away.
Those proceeding to Marina Barrage are advised to use public transport or the shuttle services provided by the event organiser.
Bus inspectors will be stationed at selected locations to advise commuters on the public bus services affected by road closures. Information signs will also be placed at the affected bus stops.
As heavy traffic and delays are expected, the understanding and cooperation from the public is much appreciated.
