Supermarket giants extend price freeze on house-brand rice

Three supermarket chains said yesterday they will continue to hold prices of their housebrand rice for the coming months, amid talk that rice-exporting nations may raise prices.

NTUC FairPrice said it will continue to hold prices of all its 10 housebrand Thai and Vietnamese rice till the end of March.

Sheng Siong supermarkets will continue to hold the prices of its four house-brands till the end of June, said Chief Executive Officer Lim Hock Chee. He pointed out that their prices have "remained steady for the last two years or more".

The Dairy Farm Singapore group also announced that its banners Cold Storage, Giant and Shop N Save will be extending the price freeze of all their house-brand rice imported from Thailand, Vietnam, India and Pakistan till March.
