I know 'coz I was there. Hur hur.

In any case, let me share some "news" about it from around the world anyway.

Preppers all prepared for the worst
While most Malaysians seem to be taking these "doomsday" predictions lightly, many have stocked up on food and other essentials fearing a massive natural disaster.

"We have all read about the prediction. Whether it is true or not, we will only know for sure over the next few days. It is best to be prepared," said a general manager of a logistics company known only as Ranjit, 55.

A Malaysian blogger, known only as Bala Joe, believes a major solar storm will bring down power grids and leave millions without electricity for months.

His storeroom is stocked with canned food, baby diapers and milk powder, a large stove as well as boxes of charcoal.

"Our water supply can last for three days and I plan to buy larger water containers," he said, adding that his preparations went beyond Dec 21, as anything could happen any time soon.

He also carries a survival kit which he keeps in the boot of his car, in case he is not at home when disaster strikes.

Man loses chickens over Doomsday prevention rumour
A widespread rumour said that placing cockerels and hens in one coop could save them from being engulfed by a huge tidal wave come Doomsday. A Rela officer believed it and followed the instructions to the letter.

He has now lost 13 chicken. The chicken were stolen from a coop at the back of his home in Taman Desa Damai, Cheng, here recently.

The 40-year-old man lodged a report at the Tanjung Minyak police station on Tuesday, claiming his neighbours saw three men prying open the coop before stealing the chickens.

The rumour was part of a series of SMSes, which also asked people to stock up on food and candles ahead of the end of the Mayan calendar today.

French police arrest men with machetes at 'doomsday' village
French police arrested two men who had gas masks and machetes in their car as they approached a mountain rumoured to be one of the few places where people will survive when the world supposedly ends on Friday.

Officials said they believed they were trying to test the security cordon thrown around the village and nearby mountain of Bugarach, where dozens of police were deployed to head off a potential influx of New Age fanatics and sightseers.

On Thursday police also arrested one man with a Taser electric shock device and another with a baseball bat near the village of 200 people, where journalists from across the world have congregated.

Mayan 'doomsday' sweeps across the world, no casualties
Diehard doomsayers hunkered down to await the apocalypse on Friday, but most took a lighthearted view of the Mayan "prophecy" of the world's destruction, laying on stunts and parties to while away the end.

"If you're in an underground bunker with a lifetime's supply of baked beans how stupid do you feel now?" asked one person on Twitter, which saw dozens of posts every minute joking about the failure of the world to end.
