A suspect was shot dead by police during an attempted robbery at a cyber cafe in Taman Len Seng, Cheras.
In the incident at 10pm yesterday, two men stormed into the cyber cafe waving machetes and demanded money from the cashier.
The cashier, who only wished to be known as Winnie, 20, said: "I was so terrified. I kept telling them that there was no money,"
When one of them pressed his machete against Winnie's throat, she screamed.
A police officer who was in the area for a different case heard the cashier's scream and then saw the two suspects coming out.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohan Singh said the police officer shouted "Police!" and ordered the robbers to drop their weapons.
"However, one of them rushed towards the officer with the machete and a shot was fired in self-defence," he said at the scene.
The bullet hit him in the chest and killed him instantly.
The second robber managed to escape on a motorcycle parked nearby.
