Her gambling addiction had cost the woman her family, job and home. And maybe her sense too.
For more than 12 hours, she was rooted to the baccarat table. And even when she started bleeding, she would not budge. She was having her period, but she refused to change her sanitary pad because she was too engrossed in gambling.
When her menses started staining her clothes, the chair and the carpet, other punters told her and casino staff asked her to clean herself. When she refused, security personnel escorted her to the toilet.
The incident took place in March when the divorcee was gambling at the Marina Bay Sands casino.
The stain was on the chair and the menses had also overflowed to the carpet. After she was escorted to the toilet, the accounting clerk, who was in her early 30s, called her ex-husband, who brought her a fresh set of clothes.
The woman had incurred huge debts because of her gambling habit. Her family had to sell their four-room flat and downgrade to pay her debts of about $80,000 with two licensed moneylenders and six loan sharks.
Despite this, she continued to gamble, even lying to her then-husband that she was at work or doing overtime when she gambled overnight.
When she gambled overnight, she went to work directly the next day without any sleep. Her work performance suffered and she was fired.
This was the last straw, and her husband divorced her.
It is not clear when she started, but before the casinos opened here, she travelled to Genting Highlands in Malaysia twice a year to gamble.
