Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder could be on the verge of making a shock move to Tottenham Hotspur during the summer.
The 28-year-old's star at the club has fallen sharply from the time he led them to a fantastic treble in 2010. Hence the Nerazzurri are now believed to be eager to offload the unhappy Dutchman once the January transfer window opens.
English giants Manchester United and Chelsea were allegedly in the running to pry Sneijder away from the San Siro last year, but both clubs' advances were then rebuffed by Inter, and the two sides' interest in the playmaker have since waned, with both teams bolstering their squads with other signings.
However it appears that Spurs have emerged as the surprising favourites to land the former Real Madrid player in January.
According to The Mirror, Spurs have recently opened negotiations with Inter for the player, with Sneijder reportedly having already agreed personal terms with the Lilywhites, and the White Hart Lane outfit could buy the midfielder for as little as £12 million.
